Dr. Herrera - Dentist The VillagesDr. Herrera

Dr. Jaclyne I. Herrera was born in Bronx, New York. She has lived in Ocala, Florida since 1994. In 2001, Dr. Herrera graduated from Forest High School as valedictorian of the graduating class. In August of that same year, she attended the University of Miami, majoring in Biochemistry with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Spanish. She graduated cum laude in December 2004, earning her Bachelor of Science degree.

Dr. Herrera attended the University of Florida on an Army Scholarship from 2007 through 2011. Upon obtaining her degree and licensure, she entered active duty service as a Captain in the Army, honorably serving our men and women in uniform for four years. She completed her Basic Officer Leadership Course training at Fort Sam Houston the summer of 2011. Her first duty station was Fort Polk, Louisiana where, in addition to providing general dentistry services, she developed and implemented a Red Cross Dental Assisting Program for the spouses and/or dependents of active duty military personnel, as well as organized February’s National Children’s Dental Health month activities for the schools and child development centers located on the installation. In August of 2013, Dr. Herrera was transferred to Fort Stewart, Georgia where she provided annual training on various subjects such as DENCOM Infection Control Protocol, Sterilization Protocol, and proper Dental Health Record maintenance. Over the course of her military career, she earned two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement medals, a National Defense Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and an Army Service Ribbon. She completed her active duty service June of 2015.

Dr. Herrera is enthusiastic about starting a new chapter in her career as a general dentist in the civilian sector. She believes her strongest personal attribute, is her ability to make patients (and people in general) feel comfortable. She once heard someone say, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” For many of her young Army soldiers, their military dental exam was their first-ever visit to the dentist. Some demonstrated varying degrees of apprehension, whether due to military rank structure or general dental anxiety. She believes it is important patient’s know that they are not just another patient in the chair, but rather a person who deserves to know what is wrong, what treatment is recommended and why. It has been her experience that it is much easier to provide dental treatment when the patient trusts you.

Dr. Herrera is a member of the American Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association, and the Central Florida District Dental Association. While not practicing dentistry, Dr. Herrera enjoys traveling, performing outdoor activities, and spending time with her family.
